Your hands-on manual for AIEO (AI Engine Optimization) in hospitality

In our last post, we talked about connecting with guests authentically in the AI era — mindset matters. But good intentions don't help if travelers can't find you in the first place.

"Okay, so what exactly do I fix right now?"

Today we're answering that with the most practical, actionable AIEO (AI Engine Optimization) playbook for hoteliers and pension owners. You've spent years optimizing for Naver and OTAs. Now it's time to think about Generative Engine Optimization (GEO), too.

The recent SOCi AI Visibility Report lays it out bluntly: AI search doesn't have a page 2. Unlike Naver, where you could scrape by on page 3, AI either recommends you — or you're invisible.

As this article notes, AI search fundamentally differs from traditional search. Google or Naver used to give you a list of links. AI gives one synthesized answer. It'll describe your property, surface reviews, and even include booking info or phone numbers — for free.

The catch: in the old portal era, multiple links got traffic. In the AI era, it's winner-takes-all or nothing. The upside is bigger, but competition to stand out among similar properties is fiercer.

Here are 4 concrete actions to ensure AI doesn't treat your property like a ghost — and actually shows it to travelers.

1. Unify your name tag (down to spacing and particles)

Humans recognize "Tport Onda Pension," "tport onda pension," and "Onda Pension (New Build)" as the same place.

AI doesn't. It thinks these are three different properties — or flags them as conflicting data and downgrades your trust score.

The report shows that data accuracy and consistency are among the top factors AI uses to decide whether to recommend a brand. If info doesn't match, AI concludes: "This place is sketchy. Skip it."

✅ Unify your business name: Check that your listing on Naver Smart Place, your website, Yanolja/Yeogi Eottae, Agoda, etc., all use the exact same name.

  • (Bad) Naver: 온다 펜션, Yeogi Eottae: ONDA_Pension, Google: 온다펜션(신축)
  • (Good) Everywhere: 온다 펜션 (spacing identical)

✅ Confirm your address: Are you mixing road-name and lot-number addresses? Pick one and copy-paste it consistently across every platform.

✅ Phone number format: 010-1234-5678 vs. 01012345678 may register as different numbers to AI. Match hyphen usage everywhere.

2. Add text to your website. AI can't read photos

Lots of properties go Instagram-minimal these days — gorgeous photos, no words. "See photos for details." But official websites account for ~23.1% of the sources AI uses to gather property data.

AI reads text-based facts far better than photo vibes. If it's not written down, the service doesn't exist to AI. Fix it like this:

  • (Before) "Pickup available" (four words)
  • (After) "Free pickup service from Gapyeong Station Exit 1 (in front of ㅇㅇ Mart) between 3–5 PM for check-ins."

Now when someone asks AI "Find me a pension near Gapyeong Station with 4 PM pickup," your place shows up.

  • (Before) One BBQ photo
  • (After) "All-season indoor BBQ pavilions usable rain or shine. Charcoal and grill provided at ₩20,000 for two guests. We use Weber grills for less smoke."

That detailed text gets you ranked when someone searches "rainy-day BBQ pension in Gapyeong."

3. Gather specific praise — not just a 4.0 rating

The average rating of AI-recommended businesses on ChatGPT is 4.4 stars. In other words, a "pretty good" 4.0-star pension is likely to get filtered out.

But here's the thing: content matters more than score. AI parses review text and extracts sentiment. Ten "Good!" comments are less valuable than one detailed compliment about your property's standout feature.

How do you get specific reviews? Ask specific questions. Give guidance when you text guests after checkout or request a review.

  • (Bad) "Did you rest well? Please leave a review."
  • (Good) "Were the linens cozy? Did the kids enjoy the pool? We'd love to hear your honest thoughts!"

Your replies count as data, too. Even if a guest leaves a short review, you can fill in keywords in your response.

  • (Guest) "Had a nice stay."
  • (Owner) "Thank you! Hope you enjoyed the newly renovated hinoki bath — next time try our fire pit zone too!"

AI learns "hinoki bath" and "fire pit" from your reply and associates them with your property.

4. Naver is table stakes — now mirror everything to Google Maps

For Korean pension owners, Naver is king. But from AI's perspective, Google Maps is the #1 data source worldwide (32.5% of citations).

If you keep Naver perfect but neglect Google, you'll capture Naver users but lose AI search traffic and international travelers.

The Naver-Google Twin Strategy: Naver = Master Copy, Google = Mirror

Every time you post an announcement on Naver Smart Place, update business hours, or upload new room photos — immediately open Google Maps (Google Business Profile) and paste the same content.

Especially photos. Many properties have 100 stunning shots on Naver but only blurry guest photos on Google. Upload at least 20 high-res official images to Google.

AI trusts Google Maps data at 99.2% accuracy (Gemini). If your Google listing matches and enriches your Naver info, AI treats your property as verified and boosts recommendation rank.

See "Are you the owner of this business?" on Google Maps? That means no one's claimed it yet. Verify ownership now. Showing that a real owner manages the listing signals credibility to AI.

Not hard at all, right?

We're not asking you to learn to code or master AI tech. Just take 10% of the effort you put into Naver and allocate it to Google and website text management.

1️⃣ Unify your name and phone across every platform

2️⃣ Write out detailed property info in text on your website

3️⃣ Prompt guests for specific reviews

4️⃣ Mirror your Naver content to Google Maps

Do these four things and AI will recognize your property as "accurate, trustworthy, top-tier" — and start recommending you first among thousands of competitors.
