# Does Joining Korea Grand Sale Boost Your Hotel Revenue?

Hi, we're **ONDA** — the **B2B platform** leading digital transformation in Korea's lodging industry.

Korea Grand Sale ran multiple rounds in 2021 — regional editions, nationwide editions — and we were curious: in the middle of a pandemic, what impact did it actually have?

So we pulled the numbers. Using real sales data from ~40,000 properties transacting through **ONDA's GDS (Global Distribution System)**, we compared **2021 vs. 2020** to see how the campaign moved the needle for lodging revenue.

We also split the data: properties that joined vs. those that didn't. Spoiler: there's a clear difference. Stick with us.

_(Note: All 2021 ONDA lodging metrics are indexed to 2020 sales = 100.)_

### **1. Korea Grand Sale GMV: 2020 vs. 2021**

We looked at overlapping campaign windows: **Nov 10–23, 2020** vs. **Nov 9–22, 2021**.

Result: **total lodging GMV rose 13.9%** year-over-year. Travel anxiety? Roughly the same. Demand held steady.

But here's the kicker: the 2021 nationwide edition ran longer — coupon redemption + check-in dates extended to Dec 23. Compared that to 2020, and the takeaway is clear: **longer campaigns = bigger impact.**

> **Resorts saw GMV more than double YoY.**

**_How did different property types perform?_**

**Resorts** led the pack — GMV jumped **122.7% YoY**.

**Pool villas** also climbed **31% YoY**. Both categories skew pricier, which signals something interesting: with international travel still off the table, **demand shifted upmarket** toward "premium domestic stays."

And motels? **Up 28.6% YoY** — above the category average. Makes sense: when you're offering ₩20,000–30,000 coupons, the discount hits harder on lower-priced inventory. Motels captured that value.

### **2. Joined vs. Didn't Join: What Changed?**

First: **72.3% of properties in ONDA's network joined** the 2021 nationwide edition. **27.7% didn't.**

**_So what did participation actually buy you?_**

We compared two windows: the **campaign period (Nov 9–Dec 22, 2021)** vs. the **pre-campaign period (Sep 18–Oct 31, 2021)**. Same properties, different timing.

> **1) More properties got bookings**

For **properties that joined**, the share with at least one booking rose from **23.7% → 28.8%** (**+5.1pp**).

For **properties that didn't join**, it dropped: **33.3% → 27.2%** (**-6.1pp**).

Translation: the campaign **activated inventory that wasn't selling before.**

> **2) Average bookings per property rose**

**Participating properties** averaged **14.4% more bookings** during the campaign vs. the pre-period.

**Non-participants** saw bookings drop **~3%**.

Bottom line: **joining the campaign didn't just help properties that were already selling — it pulled in properties that weren't.** And for those already moving inventory, it amplified sales.

The data is unambiguous. Korea Grand Sale delivered for participants.
