# [Sapiential] EP.3 Campgrounds

Hello. This is ONDA, the digital hospitality infrastructure company.

**📍Sapiential: Four essential insights for running your pension**

**Sapiential** episode three covers campgrounds.

tvN's *Outside the Tent Is Europe* returned for season 2 in March 2023 after its 2022 debut.

It's not just *Outside the Tent*. You see celebrities camping in half the variety shows on Korean TV.

Camping used to cater to people in their 30s and 40s. Now it's catching fire with Gen Z, who are drawn to nature vibes and the promise of healing outdoors.

How do these guests actually use campgrounds?

### **Camping usage in Korea**

According to the Korea Tourism Organization's *2021 Camping User Survey*, camping is a group activity more than a solo one. **33.1% of parties had four people, 28.3% had two, and 26.1% had three.** **72.4% of campers came with family.**

Among respondents with parties of two or more, **43.5% brought children.** Of those, **48.1% brought two kids** — the most common number.

So what makes people choose one campground over another?

When selecting a campground, the most important factors were **'cleanliness of amenities' (4.42 out of 5), 'campground safety management' (4.22), and 'accessibility' (4.18).**

Campgrounds involve more outdoor activity than other lodging types, so cleanliness tops the list.

How should you run your campground to boost guest satisfaction and revenue?

### **1. Nail the basics: Keep it clean**

This applies to all lodging, but campgrounds have more shared facilities — which means things get dirty and worn out faster.

Regular maintenance and replacement are non-negotiable. Guests care most about hygiene, so when your reviews say "spotless facilities," foot traffic follows.

### **2. Check the fire twice: Safety inspections**

Camping fires spike every winter.

Cold weather means heating inside tents, campfires for ambiance ("fire gazing"), and barbecues. Campgrounds have a higher accident rate, so vigilance is critical.

Remember the chart above: 'campground safety management' ranked second in importance.

Preventing accidents and keeping guests happy means safety checks are a must. Create a checklist. Audit it regularly. Then promote your safety record — guests book when they feel safe.

Below is ONDA's campground hygiene and safety checklist.

Use these items to audit your campground regularly and shore up weak spots.

### **3. Win families over: Launch a kids' camp package**

Most campground visitors are families. Many have children.

To drive repeat visits from your core audience, why not design programs around school breaks? Campground themes resonate with kids — and tailored packages drive satisfaction.

##### **"Safe Camping"** for beginners: fire management, equipment basics, essential knots

##### **"Nature Camping"** with eco themes: forest walks, stargazing, proper recycling

### **4. Get more bookings: Open more sales channels**

According to ONDA's internal data, camping, glamping, and caravan sites get most of their bookings from Naver, TMON, and Yanolja.

Should you concentrate sales on a few major channels?

Among Pension Plus users, those selling on **31+ channels saw transaction volume rise ~38% and bookings rise 50%** for small properties. **Pensions saw increases of 14% and 16%** respectively.

Pension Plus lets you **sell your property on up to 40 domestic and international channels at once**.

For owners who struggle with social media, we **provide up to ₩1.5 million in marketing support**.
