10 things you need to know about selling rooms on Naver

"Most people book accommodations through Naver"
That's the finding from Open Survey's Travel Trend Report 2023, published last November, when they asked Koreans where they search and book domestic accommodation.
Naver is Korea's #1 search portal, so maybe this doesn't surprise you. But zoom back to 2018: the top two spots went to Korean OTAs, third place to an e-commerce giant, and Naver — running a service called "Naver Hotel" — sat in fifth. Slowly but surely, Naver climbed its way to become Korea's most-used booking service.
I've always thought that when Naver decides to build something, they really build it. Travel is no exception. They nail the sweet spot between what Korean travelers need and what they won't find annoying.
ONDA's internal data backs this up. Naver's share of pension and pool villa bookings keeps growing — and we get tons of questions about it. So in this post, we're tackling 10 FAQs about selling rooms on Naver, especially for pensions and small-scale lodging operators.
Q1: There are a lot of sales channels out there. What makes Naver special?
ONDA Pension Squad: Naver lets guests discover everything they need — search, maps, accommodation details — in one place. Travelers check out your pension's homepage, browse photos, read reviews, then book through "Naver Booking" without ever leaving the platform.
It's a super consumer-friendly, one-stop journey from discovery to reservation.
Q2: That sounds great. I want to start selling my pension on Naver. What do I need to get started?
Pension Squad: First, you'll need a business registration certificate. Then register your property on Naver Place — that's step one.
Next, use the Naver Booking settings tab to upload images, room details, and pricing info. Once that's done, you're ready to sell.
Q3: Promoting a new property feels overwhelming. Where do I start?
Pension Squad: Through the Naver Smart Place Help Center, you can apply for the "Newly Opened" feature. This highlights businesses that opened less than 90 days ago in a specific neighborhood (eup/myeon/dong) when users search that area. Guest houses, camping sites, hanok stays, and pensions are all eligible.
It gets you visibility under "new accommodation" keywords, so if you're just starting out, definitely sign up for this.

Q4: You mentioned Naver ranks #1 in that survey. Does that mean I can just stick to Naver?
Pension Squad: Honestly? No, that's not realistic for most operators.
Naver-only is hard to pull off.
Other channels run aggressive coupon campaigns and promotional events. Naver lets property owners issue coupons, but they're not spending marketing dollars to give guests platform-wide discounts — at least not yet.
Plus, Naver doesn't have a monopoly. Ignoring other channels means leaving money on the table — the opportunity cost is too high.
And don't forget international channels. More Korean travelers are booking through global platforms as those platforms roll out bigger promotions. That's a trend you can't ignore.

Q5: So you're saying I should use ONDA because it manages multiple channels?
Pension Squad: I didn't expect you to say it so bluntly, but… yes (laughs). ONDA manages Naver alongside a wide range of other sales channels.
But there are real advantages to running Naver through ONDA, too. We handle everything from Naver Place registration to reservation management — it's all-in-one, which makes life a lot easier.
Also, Naver doesn't have a real-time customer service hotline, which makes communication tricky. ONDA provides CS support directly, so we help you stay connected with guests and solve problems fast.
Sure, you can register and run everything on Naver yourself. But running a business means dealing with all kinds of surprises. With ONDA, you've got an operations team to guide you through it — that's a real benefit.
Q6: Got it. Naver is good, and ONDA makes it easier. Are there other resources I should know about?
Pension Squad: Naver offers business education programs for property owners. If you're new to the hospitality industry, these workshops can give you a solid foundation and help you prepare more thoroughly.
Q7: ONDA has a lot of sales data from Naver. What do consistently high-performing pensions have in common?
Pension Squad: Properties that sell well manage reviews religiously. They also work hard to maintain competitive pricing. (We can share more details on this if you work with us.)
But the most important thing? They nail the basics. Specifically: cleanliness. Clean, well-maintained properties earn positive reviews, which attract more guests. It's a virtuous cycle.
Q8: You've talked a lot about the upsides. Are there any downsides?
Pension Squad: Naver doesn't offer a dedicated partner center or real-time customer service desk like other platforms do.
And if you're not working with ONDA, you're on your own to register on Naver Place, set up Naver Booking, and follow all the guides yourself. For properties that can't handle that independently, Naver can be a tough channel to operate.
Q9: I'm worried about malicious comments. How do top operators handle them? You can't monitor reviews 24/7.
Pension Squad: Deleting bad reviews isn't the answer. Don't panic, and don't overreact — that's the worst thing you can do.
Instead, figure out what you can actually improve, then respond with a thoughtful comment showing how you'll address the issue. Being proactive and transparent is what matters most.
Q10. What's the future outlook for pensions on Naver?
Pension Squad: I think Naver's going to keep growing. They're what I'd call "management-focused." As a search portal, they can use algorithms to filter out fake listings, detect abuse, and surface properties with genuine positive reviews. That gives them a strong foundation for growth.
Every platform is betting on AI right now.
Naver's gradually introducing AI into search and accommodation recommendations, and early signs look promising. Naver might move slower than others, but they're rock-solid when they do move.
