Quick-Start SNS Marketing for Accommodations (5): Naver Modoo!

Hi everyone! I'm Somora, marketing manager at ONDA — where we're building the right future for the hospitality industry. August is here, bringing scorching heat and peak season for accommodations. Everyone's hunting for ways to beat the heat and escape to vacation spots. Sure, people say peak season is disappearing, that vacation periods are blurring, that rest has become everyday — but July and August still deliver the best sales in Korea's domestic travel market.

With all the buzz around domestic and international travel trends lately, accommodation operators are wrestling with marketing questions. So I'm back with the fifth installment in this series — today's channel that can help your property: Naver Modoo!

What is Naver Modoo!?

Naver Modoo! is Naver's mobile website builder, pitched as "a free mobile homepage anyone can make easily." As that tagline suggests, the biggest draw is how simple it is — anyone can build their own mobile site with minimal setup. In the past, they marketed it broadly to everyone; nowadays, they're laser-focused on business owners. By using Modoo! to build a mobile homepage for your accommodation, you can effectively promote your property, activities, and amenities.

Naver Modoo! home screen

There are plenty of free homepage builders out there. Some people repurpose their blog as a homepage. Others use Naver Cafe (which I covered last time). WordPress and Wix also offer free site-building tools. But what makes Naver Modoo! special? It's easy to use, mobile-optimized, and packed with templates. WordPress and Wix can be overwhelming for beginners — you basically need help to get anywhere, and the setup is complicated. Naver Blog and Cafe can substitute for a homepage, but they can't fully replace one.

I'm highlighting Naver Modoo! today because of two massive trends in travel and hospitality (and every other industry, really): 1. Mobile usage is everything, and 2. Naver dependency is sky-high. Modoo! checks both boxes. As I've mentioned in previous columns and market reports, mobile bookings now account for over 70% of Korea's hospitality market. As mobile usage grows, apps and websites optimize their pages to make mobile purchasing easier and smoother. Naver Modoo! was built precisely for this need — offering mobile-first platforms, themes, and templates that keep evolving. It's especially popular among sole proprietors and small business owners because it's so accessible and straightforward.

And the Naver dependency angle? Look at how Naver recently launched package travel bookings, methodically swallowing up the accommodation and travel space. Booking platforms used to mean overseas OTAs or domestic booking apps. After Naver launched its booking service, its share exploded. And they didn't stop there — like the giant they are, they diversified fast with Naver Hotel, Naver Pension, and other formats tailored to customer needs. More and more people now find Naver booking convenient and familiar. As Naver becomes synonymous with travel and lodging, Modoo! offers integration with Naver Booking — giving consumers that sense of ease and familiarity. I'll explain this feature in more detail below.

Why Naver Modoo! Works for Marketing

I've already touched on some advantages, but let me break down why Modoo! is such a smart marketing move — specifically for accommodation operators.

1. Slash website costs

Normally, building a business website costs at least ₩1–3 million (and that's before professional photos). But Naver Modoo! — like Naver Blog and Cafe — gives you the platform and features for free. You can create your own homepage without a huge upfront cost. It even includes menu and pricing functions, so you can easily list room types and rates.

If your property is already on Naver Place with your address, contact info, and map listing, you can link "Naver My Business" data to display or edit your property info directly on your Modoo! homepage. Basically, one Naver ID login gets you homepage creation, hosting, search registration, visitor stats, Naver Booking, TalkTalk, SmartStore integration — all at once. And it's all free. What property owner wouldn't love that?

2. Easy to run and manage

When you set up Modoo!, you can freely choose designs and colors. The selection of templates is huge, so you can customize your mobile homepage however you want. Templates are organized by category — basic templates, business/shop types, organizations/cultural groups, personal use — with lots of industry-specific options. For accommodation operators, the Lodging/Camping category is your best bet. Naver Modoo! even provides sample sites in subcategories like guesthouses, pensions, camping, hanok stays — definitely worth browsing for inspiration.

Modoo! lets you display only the info you want on your mobile homepage — photos, videos, posts, features — giving you high flexibility. Sure, every site ends up looking somewhat similar (that's a downside), but they're constantly updating, so expect improvements. When someone posts or comments, you can get notified via text, email, or Naver TalkTalk, making customer engagement super convenient.

Finally, Modoo! is responsive. That means whether someone visits on PC, smartphone, or tablet, the site automatically adjusts to fit the screen. When customers see an optimized, clean layout instead of a broken mess, they're more likely to book. And as the operator, you can manage the site easily from any device — PC, smartphone, whatever.

3. Meaningful search exposure

Once you create a Naver Modoo! homepage and upload content, everything gets indexed in Naver's integrated search — your site will appear in search results. Modoo! loves to brag that you can get search exposure with one click, so this feature will likely get upgraded, paywalled, or turned into a premium service eventually. Images show up in Naver's image search results. If you search "HomepageName@", your Modoo! site pops right up.

Keywords you register inside your Modoo! homepage also appear in integrated search — I'll explain more in the "How to Use" section below. You can also register contact info, maps, and other property details, making it easy for customers to find you and get in touch. Like KakaoTalk Plus Friends, Modoo! even offers printing services for flyers, business cards, and stickers to promote your mobile homepage.

4. SNS integration

If you've been struggling to manage multiple scattered SNS accounts and pages, Naver Modoo! can help. It has built-in Instagram, Facebook, and blog integration. Not just link integration — you can create an SNS-specific board that aggregates posts from those platforms and displays them on your Modoo! homepage. This connects to your mobile homepage so more customers can see your property's news and updates.

For example, say customer reviews are on Instagram, your property updates are on Facebook, and blog posts are scattered across platforms. Link those SNS accounts to Naver Modoo!, and all those posts get pulled into one place — your Modoo! homepage or board. Linking Naver Blog is especially useful because it boosts your search visibility. If you run a blog, I highly recommend setting up Modoo! too.

Finally, if you operate multiple properties or manage several Modoo! homepages, you can aggregate and showcase them all in one place. If you use Naver TalkTalk, you can integrate that as well — creating a convenient customer communication channel.

5. Integrate multiple booking methods

This might be the biggest win for accommodation operators — even bigger than all the other features. I'm talking about booking integration. Naver Modoo! supports a ton of booking methods, making it incredibly efficient for driving reservations.

The biggest one: Naver Booking. Since it's the same company, Modoo! provides direct shortcuts and icons for Naver Booking. You can also set up phone icons the same way. If you already have a property website but want mobile optimization, you can link that site to Modoo! just as easily.

You can also connect SmartStore, real-time booking widgets, SNS booking windows — all kinds of channels. Setting up multiple reservation paths helps you capture bookings from every direction.

How to Use Naver Modoo!

1) Take advantage of online & offline training

To help people who find Modoo! intimidating, Naver provides extensive manuals. The most useful resource? Modoo! online training. Modoo!'s official training hub offers video tutorials that walk you through everything from creation to usage. The curriculum is broken down step-by-step so you can watch and follow along. If videos aren't enough, download the Modoo! team's written manual. Building and managing a mobile homepage suddenly feels way less daunting.

Naver also runs free monthly classes for small business owners through Naver Partner Square in cities like Seoul, Busan, and Gwangju. Modoo! training is part of the lineup. Registration is first-come, first-served, and you'll get email notifications. If you're in one of those areas, it's worth attending. I've been to a few of these marketing sessions (not just Modoo!) and found the materials and instruction quite solid. They cover topics beyond marketing — tax, legal, etc. — so check the schedule and sign up for what you need.

2) Register your homepage for search

You built a beautiful Modoo! homepage for your property. But if nobody visits? All that work is wasted. Getting customers to find your homepage is just as important as creating it. That's why you absolutely must complete "Modoo! Homepage Search Registration."

Once you register your Modoo! homepage for search, it gets indexed in Naver's integrated search — meaning people will see it when they search relevant keywords. Naver Modoo! provides a detailed manual for this process. Follow it step-by-step and make search registration your #1 priority.

3) Integrate Naver Booking and N Pay

The biggest strength of Naver Modoo! is search visibility. When customers land on your homepage from a search, they'll naturally want to book your property. But if the booking process is clunky? Their finger hits the back button. That's why I strongly recommend integrating Naver Booking and N Pay. Sure, you can connect a real-time booking widget, but customers hate jumping through hoops to complete a payment. Plus, people trust Naver. That brand equity influences booking decisions.

Imagine two properties with similar quality and amenities. One offers Naver Booking. Customers subconsciously think, "Well, Naver approved this one, so it must be more reliable." It's a marketing psychology trick — leveraging a big brand's halo effect. Naver Booking does exactly that. N Pay is another convenient, widely used payment method. Diversifying payment options = higher revenue for your property.

That's it for today! We explored Naver Modoo!, the mobile homepage builder. How was it? It's quite different from the other SNS channels I've covered, so it might feel unfamiliar — but once you dive in, Modoo! is truly easy, convenient, and incredibly versatile. I hope this guide helps you take your property marketing to the next level!
