07. Yangpyeong Balance Dog: A Private Pet Pension Where You and Your Dog Can Just Be

On a spring day in 2022, I received a special invitation to visit Balance Dog in Yangpyeong with my dog. Balance Dog is a standalone hanok pension that accommodates 4 to 8 guests. It's not far from Seoul, so getting there was easy.
My dog just turned 12, and I'd been worried about his health — wondering if travel was wise. But the moment we arrived at Balance Dog and I saw how happy he was, all my worries disappeared. What made it special? It's a hanok-style pet pension, and it's completely private — unlike anything I'd seen before.
What was it about Balance Dog that made my dog light up?
I'd never expected much from pet pensions in terms of "aesthetic vibe" — most felt pretty far from what you'd call a stylish stay. But Balance Dog? The moment I stepped inside, I couldn't help but gasp. White interiors bathed in natural light, thoughtfully placed props — everything begged to be photographed. It was a space that worked for people and dogs.
In the room, we found a welcome gift — perfectly on-brand for a pet pension. Inside: dog treats, a toy, a towel for bathing, pee pads, and waste bags. You could feel the care.
The living room had a large six-person table and a spacious kitchen. I immediately thought: this is perfect for a family trip.
One thing that stood out: no sofa. Instead, there was a raised platform with cushions. A bit unconventional for humans, maybe — but the height worked for dogs. You could sit apart or together, and your dog could hop up easily.
Most pet pensions I've visited are either comfortable for dogs but awkward for people, or vice versa. Balance Dog felt like it got both right.
In another corner: feeding stations at different heights — small dogs, big dogs, all covered. Two bowls: one for water, one for food. Perfect.
For a dog, any new space takes time. Mine kept going back and forth — wanting to go outside when we were in, wanting to come back in when we were out. I think the yard was just too big to enjoy alone.
The outdoor yard was pristine — lush grass, secure fencing. From spring to fall, it'd be perfect for a picnic with your dog.
Photo ops were everywhere. We took tons of family photos with my dog.
Just when I thought I'd seen it all, I spotted something else: a BBQ area and a pool.
The outdoor pool is heated, available during set hours. My dog's condition meant we had to skip it this time, but the idea of swimming with your dog in complete privacy? Pretty rare.
At most pet pensions, once it's dark, you're stuck indoors. Not here. Balance Dog offers bonfire time. They set up firewood in the yard, and you can sit under the stars with your dog, staring into the flames. That service alone doubled the satisfaction.
I've been to a lot of pet pensions. But nothing this stylish, nothing this thoughtful. Balance Dog was hands-down the best. And it made me realize: Korea's pet culture is evolving fast.
Just like the pandemic made private stays popular, I think more people will seek out private pet-friendly spaces where it's just them and their dog. And Balance Dog? It's the gold standard for what that can look like.
